Our healthcare system faces significant challenges in addressing this growing cancer threat. As the most referred specialty in medicine, we are operating within an underresourced and sub-optimal public healthcare framework. Despite having a powerful national screening programme, it is currently operating below capacity.

The situation is further complicated by a complex myriad legacy IT systems and structures. Disparate participants lack IT interoperability, inadvertently colluding to prevent positive outcomes. This highly regulated industry struggles with high medico-legal indemnity costs, placing additional burdens on healthcare providers.

Perhaps most critically, specialists often find themselves spending valuable time and resources on administration rather than practising medicine. This misallocation of expertise further strains our ability to combat this pressing health crisis effectively.
